LANDS (Let’s Agree Not to Dispose of Schools!: Victoria-based group formed several years ago to stop the loss of public school properties in BC. The Ministry subsequently restricted the ability of local Boards to sell off school properties to help balance budgets.

BC Education Ministry stats: Reporting on K-12 Education: Useful data broken down by school, district or provincial summaries covering class sizes, student statistics, outcomes and other key info. Provincial ”Summary of Key Information” reports include district & provincial funding stats.
BC Stats: Regional district population estimates & projections: Look up past student-age population estimates for individual school districts and future population projections (Note: future projections can’t be broken down by age group with this tool)
Statistics Canada: Summary Public School Indicators for the Provinces and Territories, 2000/2001 to 2006/2007: Latest annual report comparing BC to the rest of Canada on a broad suite of public education indicators.
BC Education Analysis: Created by Prince George parent Sarah Holland, this cool Web-based resource provides a wealth of data on key stats like school closures, staffing ratios, enrolment trends, etc for BC school districts.

Functional capacity petition (Though it’s not very clearly explained, this petition calls on BC government to amend its formula for calculating school space needs to accomodate other services required to meet community needs. It is widely felt that the current Ministry definition is too narrow, and that this therefore exagerates the amount of surplus space in public schools, thus hastening school closures and also leading to construction of new schools inadequate to meet community needs. )
