Mea culpa: As site hosts, we’re both busy working moms doing this in our spare time, so we apologize that things sometimes get way out of date. You’ll also notice that older news links may no longer work (as news organizations clear out their archives). But we try to include extracts to provide a sense of what it was about, and we’re reluctant to delete the important historical record that’s building up on these pages as we track the struggles, locally and provincially, in the face of provincial underfunding of public education.
You’re invited: We encourage visitors to recommend interesting links to local and provincial news, upcoming events, etc or to join/ start a conversation about public education on the blog page of this site here.
A new feature: We introduce a new “featured SOS campaign” on our main page to highlight the amazing grassroots initiatives happening all around the province, and to help build support especially for the many small rural communities fighting to save their public schools, far from the attention of media and political leaders who tend not to look too far past Victoria and Vancouver!
We think our first feature is apt. It’s a compelling video produced by Rossland senior student Maddie Snelgrove, who in so many ways personifies and demonstrates the importance of investing in public education and especially small rural schools.
