Campbell River Mirror: School District 72 faces another deficit

The school board will likely have to make spending cuts again this year to education.
“We are still facing a structural deficit,” said board chair Helen Moats. “It’s going to be manageable, but we’ll have to make some cuts.”
The school board does not have enough money to provide the same level of service as last year and is facing a funding shortfall.
“There’s still some unknowns, but we certainly won’t have enough to fill that gap,” she said.
The board may have to consider layoffs to balance the budget without cutting programs. School boards are not allowed to run deficits and there don’t appear to be any new sources of funding for the school district, other than some additional revenue from international students, Moats said. Read more
